It has been 10 days since Donald Trump was inaugurated as the president of the US. Already, Trump has moved forward with some of the promises we secretly and openly hoped would never come true. Here are some of the major actions undertaken thus far by the new president;
- Signed permission for the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Keystone XL pipeline, and attempted to close the public comment period for the DAPL Environmental Impact Assessment to effectively ignore the concerns of Native americans and environmental activists.
- Signed an executive order to being the planning of a wall along the US-Mexico border.
- Signed an executive order to ban refugees from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia from entering the country, and to suspend certain visa groups (student and worker included). Fired the executive attorney after she ordered the justice department lawyers not to defend the unconstitutional travel ban.
- Forced the national park service and other government agencies into a media blackout after their tweets about climate change.
- Signed an executive order to prevent international NGOs which support abortion from receiving US funding.
It is a lot, but the resistance is powerful, and it is everywhere. US-American people and interest groups protest, countries stand up against Trump, and concerned individuals all over the world are taking action.
Where the next 10, 100 and 1000 days of Trump will take us is uncertain. But one thing that is certain is that there are powerful protectors of justice stepping up and taking action everywhere. We stand united for our climate, for refugees and immigrants, for women, LBTQ+, and other vulnerable groups, for free and truthful media, and for climate justice and social justice around the world.
